British Waterways Needs You

Every so often, some bright spark at the Treasury comes up with the idea of flogging off British Waterways' property portfolio, income from which helps to maintain the canal system. Usually it's only a matter of time before someone older and wiser realises that its a very bad idea as the waterways will still need maintaining - and would do so even if they were closed to boats.

The idea has raised its ugly head again and this time BW is sufficiently concerned to issue a special "Boaters' Update" to alert us to it and to an e-petition on the Downing Street website opposing the move . I have doubts about the usefulness of these petitions (although the anti road charging campaign scored an impressive victory with theirs) but there's nothing to be gained by not signing, so here is the link.
