Just Because I Can

Norbury Wharf, Starcross' home mooring
I don't completely "winterise" Starcross, although I do take certain precautions to prevent damage to the engine and water system over the colder months. Instead I like to pay a visit to Norbury Junction every few weeks and take her out for a short trip to give the engine a bit of use and charge up the batteries.
Until now I've had to do this at weekends, which has sometimes meant that I haven't been able to go as often as I would have liked, but now I'm a free (retired) man I shall be going up tomorrow for a few midweek days afloat.
There are a few little jobs to do, a few supplies to buy and there will be time for a little trip up (or down) the Shroppie, as the mood takes me.

Hi,
I'm interested in what you do to protect your boat without completely winterising it. Any tips?
Thanks

Kathy,
Basically all I do is drain the water tank, leave the taps open and drain the water heater. This year I will lag some of the more accessible pipework as well as I had a burst pipe under the sink last year. I know I should check the anti-freeze in the engine as well: but its recommended you service the engine about now anyway. The only other thing I do is to try and keep the diesel tank full. Bear in mind though that I never really stop using the boat and try to visit - and run the engine - at least every three weeks.
