The Two Towers

Birmingham City Council's Tourism Department likes to claim Sarehole Mill, in that fair city, as the source of J R R Tolkien's inspiration for his Lord of the Rings trilogy, but I wonder if Long Eaton, on the Erewash Canal, played a part? The town is was once heavily industrialised and doesn't seem to want to let go of that past. Former factory and mill chimneys are everywhere, being retained even when the industrial enterprises they served have been turned into housing or demolished. Here are some that can be seen from the canal.
