It's all a matter of taste in Birmingham

They are building a new library in Birmingham. It looks like this:

It will replace the existing building nearby that looks like this:

A classic 1970s concrete job

Setting aside the fact that its uncertain how long libraries will survive in the future anyway, there are apparently people who prefer the old one.
I don't know what  the 1970s concrete horror replaced, but I've no doubt that if I'd been around then I would have joined a campaign to preserve the previous building - but not this time round - I'm all for the new!
