Mystery Boat Revealed!

In Thursday's Quiz Time post some readers ( Sarah on Chertsey) were more interested in the boat in the photo rather than which canal it was on.
Well I've dug out another transparency from that day in August 1982 and can now reveal that the boat in question was the "John Gray" - a horse drawn trip boat operated by the now-defunct Cromford Canal Society between Leawood and Cromford Wharf.

Sorry about the dreadful picture quality, but that's why I didn't use this slide in the quiz in the first place. And I haven't been able to find out anything about the "John Gray" except that it ceased operating in the late nineteen-eighties, possibly when the Cromford Canal Society itself disappeared.

I'll ask some Cromford types at the HNBC AGM on Saturday, if you like.

The pages of Friends of the Cromford Canal might be helpful.

You'll be pleased to know the 'John Gray' is not lost! We bought her back in November but she'd been renamed to 'Muse'. We are planning to change the name back and are in the process of converting her to live aboard.
I've started a blog to document the process - www.nbjohngray.blogspot.co.uk.
