A month ago it was already dark by 4pm. Tonight, sunset in Lancaster was at 4.33pm and its there's still light in the sky as I write this at nearly five o' clock. Strangely, although Lancaster is 200 miles north of London it's also so far west that sunset here is no later than at, for example, Camden lock (according to Nick Addy's Canal Planner). Poor old Halfie, in Norwich, lost the sun a good ten minutes earlier whereas Sue and Vic on No Problem will be getting an extra 5 minutes daylight down on the Kennet & Avon.
Mind you, what time it goes dark also depends on the weather and it's light here tonight only because for once, it isn't actually raining! Still, things can only get better and it reminds me, as if I needed it, that it's high time I was boating again.
